CAS of Toronto recognizes and thanks all of its volunteers during National Volunteer Week (April 21 to 27, 2013).  Volunteers play an essential role in helping us reach our vision of, “Leading with excellence and working in partnership, we will create a city where children are safe, families are strong and communities are supported.”

We have more than 600 volunteers who help make the lives of children, youth and families better through their contributions as Special Friends to a parent or child, as tutors and drivers, volunteering at supervised access visits and special events as well as volunteering in our Donation Room. They are part of the more than 1.2 million volunteers in Canada who donate their time, energy, skills and expertise to better the lives of people, communities and our country.

Thanks to each and every one of our volunteers for their time, dedication and efforts in improving the lives of the families, youth and children that we serve.

We are always looking for safe, loving families for children and youth in our care.

People from diverse cultural backgrounds, single people or same-sex couples are encouraged to consider adoption. As well, people with the capacity to adopt children with special needs, sibling groups or older children are needed.

The Ontario Association of Children’s Aid Societies (OACAS) and Ontario’s Children’s Aid Societies  are spreading the message  throughout Adoption Awareness Month, that all children and youth deserve to have forever families and lifelong connections they can count on.

YouthRAP Launch

The Children’s Aid Society of Toronto expresses sincere gratitude to the foster families, who provide their homes to care for and nurture vulnerable children. These community members are a integral part of our child welfare team and we are extremely proud of the fact they represent the wonderful diversity that makes up our city. The remarkable dedication that these families demonstrate is a reflection of the generosity of their hearts and their commitment to the understanding that children depend on all of us. On behalf of the CAS of Toronto, we want to thank all foster families for their tireless and unselfish dedication and their overall commitment to the best interests of children.

Toronto’s child protection agencies use social media to help children and inform the community -

Toronto’s four Children’s Aid Societies are “going social” to promote Child Abuse Prevention Month. The agencies have combined forces to create a Facebook (www.facebook.com/CAPMToronto) and Twitter (www.twitter.com/CAPM_Toronto) campaign to spread the word about ways to identify and prevent child abuse and neglect.

This campaign allows Toronto CASs to bring a wealth of information to a large number of people through social media. The campaign is an annual joint effort between Catholic Children’s Aid Society of Toronto, Children’s Aid Society of Toronto, Jewish Family & Child and Native Child and Family Services of Toronto. The goal is to raise public awareness of the signs of child abuse and to provide information on why it’s so important to report child abuse and neglect.

“In today’s world, an increasing number of people use social media to circulate and receive important information. We feel that this campaign gives us an opportunity to reach a new audience with the message that there are children out there that need protection,” said David Rivard, Chief Executive Officer of the Children’s Aid Society of Toronto.
